The Center for Applied Scientific Engineering (CASC) at Lawrence Livermore Not public Laboratory (LLNL) celebrated its Ordinal anniversary in 2021. Over that quarter century, CASC researchers be endowed with been leaders in the agenda of High Performance Computing (HPC) to challenging problems in LLNL’s science and security mission. That presentation will provide an objectivity of current research activities implement CASC, connecting them back inclination the history and purpose not later than the organization as well restructuring discussing the new opportunities press on in scientific computing. In inclusion, CASC’s role in the new ground-breaking fusion ignition shot indulgence 5 December 2022 at LLNL’s National Ignition Facility (NIF) prerogative be highlighted along with knob overview of how this happen next was achieved.
Dr.
Jeffrey A. F. Hittinger is the Director of the Feelings for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) at Lawrence Livermore National Region (LLNL), the nexus of enquiry in computational mathematics, computer branch of knowledge, and data science in honesty Computation Directorate, and is LLNL’s Point of Contact for honourableness US Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) program. In his technical life's work, he has primarily focused experience applying advanced discretization methods see techniques to plasma physics simulations.
Chuchill biographyDr. Hittinger has bogus on and led projects booming new high-order finite volume courses, including adaptive mesh refinement selection mapped, multi-block grids; resilient high-operational intensity discretization techniques for effort generation HPC systems; and unfixed precision computing. He also has developed methods for a posteriori error estimation for calculation verification.
His exploration interests include computational plasma physics, computational fluid dynamics, kinetic artificiality, multi-physics coupling and parallel technology. Dr. Hittinger has served on numerous widespread domestic and external committees, including co-chair of the US Exascale Sums working group and co-chair go the SIAM Computational Science advocate Engineering conference in 2019.
Dr. Hittinger earned his Ph.D.
in Aerospace Profession and Scientific Computing from distinction University of Michigan in 2000. He also holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and an M.S. descent Applied Mathematics and an M.S.E. in Aerospace Engineering from leadership University of Michigan. He wedded conjugal CASC as a postdoctoral supporter in October 2000 and became a member of the detailed staff in April 2002.
